Follow the Drinking Gourd - Grades K-8
Very interactive flipchart for Social Studies about the slave song "Follow the Drinking Gourd." Included is a recording of the song with explanations of the secrets behind this coded song that shares the way to the north. Students will follow the words of the song to plot out on a map how to escape to freedom. Activities about the stars are also included. Plus a link to a National Geographic site with a game that allows the students to use ACTIVotes to make choices. This flipchart contains a main menu with nine choices and lots of action objects, plus assessment/discussion questions.

Follow the Drinking Gourd - K-3
This ACTIVote flipchart is based upon the book, Follow the Drinking Gourd. It is best suited for 2nd grade students who have a fundamental understanding of the Underground Railroad.

The Debate Over Slavery - Grades 6-8
This flipchart contains information about the renewed debate over the spread of slavery after the Mexican War. It describes the Wilmot Proviso, popular sovereignty, the Compromise of 1850, the Fugitive Slave Act, and the novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin."

Underground Railroad - Grades 6-12
This flipchart is designed to introduce students to the Underground Railroad for the first time. It gets progressively more advanced in the thinking skills it requires of students as it gets further along.

Civil War Resource Pack
This resource pack includes photographs, drawing and paintings from the civil war, as well as portraits of key figures and a text file of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
